i have a 2004 txt with a 4 inch lift and22-11-10 stryker tires when i hit a bump the front end pulls bounces all over if i try to make a sharp turn i have to turn the steering wheel alot to make the turn and then turn alot more to bring it back to straiten it out again

It sounds typical of lots of slack in the steering wheel. If so, little humps will nearly throw you out of the cart if youre going any speed at all.

Does your steering have loose play in it?

I have the same issues, not so much with the turning but the loose steering + bumps and stuff. So I'm interested to hear if there is a quick and cheap fix. I've feared it was something like "buy a new steering box" or "buy ******** random expensive part"

ditto!!! even with worn steering parts if the toe is set right it should track and drive right. it'll just have more play in the wheel. Check the tie rod ends and spindle tube bushings to see if they need replaced.

My neighbor found a grease zerk on his marathon's steering column or steering gear box, I forget which, and pumped some grease in it. Helped his out quite a bit.

I go with ruredy on this one, even with worn bits on the steering, the only real reason for serious bump steer is that you have a toe out situation. Of course, if you have loads of wear in the joints, setting the toe correct while standing, would show up again when moving forward on a rear wheel drive machine. The opposite would happen to a front wheel drive as the wheels would try to toe in when driven.

Another point to check, is that if the front springs are very weak, a low ride height due to the design of the steering system, would actually cause toe out that you dont notice unless the cart has a payload, while checking the tracking.

Hope this makes sense.

Nope, doesn't make a bit of sense....
His cart should have the new style steering so this should'nt be a problem.

Whoops, should have read the original post better.

I still go with you Jon, Its most likely to be toe out causing the problem, though this may be attributable to worn ball joints anyway. One thing to check, is the tracking bar that links the two spindles. I have seen these bent after hitting an obstructionand this would definitely make a toe out bump steer situation.

I have been around, just too much going on right now, to spend a lot of time here. Since we moved to the race circuit, we have a fleet of hire buggies working the paddock and pits and have started another business doing race car salvage and spare part sales. Since starting this, we have broken up a Ferrari 360 and a Maserati 4200 amongs other things. COOL.

no slack when not moving but a lot when moving there is . i want to thank every one for there help!
