Light kit - can it work with brake switch and turn signal?

This kit seems to be pretty common, is it pre-wired to support a turn-signal switch and brake-pedal switch? Not mentioned in any description I can find here or elsewhere.

I'm thinking of getting the 25A reducer as my daughter also wants a spot bar on the roof - is this going to be enough, or should I just run a dedicated battery for the 12V system?

Yes that kit will allow for turn/brake lights. A 25 amp reducer will probably cost you more than an extra battery. I would go with an extra battery and be done.

Well, you wanted opinions. I'd go with the reducer. One less battery to buy and maintain.

Thanks! Yup, the reducer means I don't have to worry about charging the extra battery. It does limit my total power somewhat, however. It would be nice to be able to put 5 100W floods up on top.. :)

I don't have the formula, but 500 watts from a single 12v battery might last an hour or two.

Looking for a higher capacity reducer, OR - could run three lights, off pairs of the 6x6V batteries used for drive. Wiring isn't an issue for me, although that's a lot of wire. Probably use flat speaker wire..

500w/12volts= 41.666 amps. You will need atleast a 50 amp converter to run 42 amp continuous.

The biggest one I can find is 40 amps (32 continuous) and its a large unit (physically). I cant even find a price on it, but the 20 amp model retails for $166.75.
If you are going to run that size lights, you need good size wire and relays per pair. You will not find a DC-DC converter that will supply 50 amps, and if you do, it will be A LOT cheaper to go with an extra battery. You could actually buy a battery and an onboard charger for less than you can buy a voltage reducer.

Probably a better alternative to make both your daughter and the batteries happy is LED driving lights. She will get her spotlights and the LED lights pull WAAAAY less power.

Actually, I'm looking at the LED floodlights you can buy now for A/C replacements. Thinking of perhaps making my own 36V floodlight system - no reducer needed, much lower power requirement, and probably never need replacing. I have an EE degree, btw, so I know about volts and power and such..
