Harbor Freight Engine???
Will this engine at Harbor Freight work on my G16? They have 11HP for $299 and a 13HP for $350. I have noticed that the shaft comes out of the right side of the engine, versus the stock engine which has the shaft out of the left side. Can I just turn the engine around backwards? The valves will be in the rear. Will the engine run just a good in reverse as it will forwards?

Re: Harbor Freight Engine???
if you flip the engine around the rotation of the engine may be spinning in reverse direction.

Re: Harbor Freight Engine???
Is that a problem? Will the engine run either direction, same number of rpms?

Re: Harbor Freight Engine???
What I think your asking refers to the forward and reverse gear ratio's. Will the transmission run the cart at the same speed over engine rpm in reverse as it does in forward. I have a G16 but I never tried running full speed in reverse. My guess is Yamaha would make it geared slower in reverse for safety. I'll have to try mine and let you know...

Re: Harbor Freight Engine???
The only carts I know of that turn opposite of about all lawn type engines is the club cars that do that. About all small engines are clockwise at the flywheel. For a couple bucks more you can get a 16hp at carrolstream it is also a Lifan engine. One I put in is running good so far, it has piles of power but they don't want to wind up much higher than stock. It just rips up hills. There is another place with the 16 quite cheap, it is just a bored and stroked version of the 13hp the block is the same. Look up clone motors, look in the big block section here.
The only engines that run both directions are certain 2 strokes like the G1 and certain snowmobiles. A 4 stroke can not do that without changing the cam. |

Re: Harbor Freight Engine???
The shaft looks like it comes out of the left side to me and it spins counter clockwise. Looks to me like it would work fine.
