Default Harbor Freight Engine

Has anyone ever tried to put a Greyhound engine from Harbor Freight into an G16?

It is just another clone, they are all mostly the same except the airbox and muffler. HF has new ones now (black) that are more expensive, but look like the same clone underneath.

I wonder if they have a CDI magnito. The kart guys are all PO'd because the displacement is different so they screw up all their classes. They had the 6.5hp on sale for 60 some dollars wish I would have ordered one, they are all gone. Just shows you how much they pay for them.

I just did it. 13 horse greyhound. There's actually a sticker on the bottom of the pullstart that says lifan. Good motor. Great torque upgrade. Still dialing it in. Bought the engine on sale plus used a 20% coupon. With a 2 year warrenty I paid $250. How can you go wrong?

The guy at Harbor Freight said that do not have reverse. Is that true? How hard is it to modify to get reverese?

If you are using it in a G16, the cart already has reverse.

I am kind of a newbe to engines. Please explain the reverse in the G16. When I put the cart in reverse, does the engine spin the opposite direction to forward?

Only old 2 stroke golf carts like the G1 and old ezgo spin the engine backwards for reverse. It is not possible to do with any 4 stroke, all newer carts since maybe early 90s are 4 strokes and have a reverse gear in the transmission.
