Default 2002 pds speed sensor swapped and same issue!

Hello all:

I'm somewhat new to the electric cart world and so far I wish I went gas. I have a 2002 Ezgo pds currently showing a 1-3 fault code in diagnostic mode. I confirmed that this was a speed sensor fault by the "push test"--the run away buzzer didn't function. I removed the speed sensor, examined the magnet for damage. The magnet looked fine, thus, I ordered a speed sensor. I installed it today and got the same fault and same symptoms. Takes off quickly then slows to a crawl and beeps the same fault code. What now? I'm praying no one says buy a controller! I appreciate everyone's help!

1 of 2 things.

either a bad "new" sensor
or a bad controller.

which way does the magnet face? is the magnet part facing out? I have seen these installed wrong and cause the same issue.

Thanks for the quick response. Magnet faces out. Is there a way to bench test the speed sensor?

Not actually a bench test, but I did it in the cart with the rear wheels off the ground using an Oscilloscope.
With Pin-1 (Black wire) as reference, you get 8 pulses (spikes actually) for each motor revolution on Pin-2 (White wire).

Possibly an automotive type DMM with a Tachometer function might work.
With the Tach set for 8 cylinders and it should read out motor RPM.
