NEED HELP! With 1998 ezgo with 295 robin
I have a question about a problem with my 1998 ezgo. The cart will not fire. I have good spark but there is a big puddle of gas in the air cleaner and it also spits gas out of the front of the carb. Could this be a problem with the timing or the valves. The cart doesnt fire but it will backfire every once in a while. If anyone can help me with my problem it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the advice. How do you correctly set the timing is there a little mark to line the cam pulley up and which piston do you put at top dead center.

Adjusting the valves MIGHT solve the problem. Have you tried taking the compression? It sounds more like the timing belt has slipped or thrown a couple of teeth. Use the manual "available on this site" to learn how to replace the belt and reset the timing. After that you might want to take the compression as the overhead valve engines have a nasty habit of bending valves when the timing belt slips time. Here's hoping adjusting the valves solves your problem.

Re: NEED HELP! With 1998 ezgo with 295 robin
The funny thing about these engines is that you never see one that has "jumped" timing, they normally break the belt. I'm not saying yours hasn't, but it would be the first time I heard about one doing it. If the cam timing is off, it was put together that way. My guess is the valves need adjusting (the intake valves are not closing properly) or replaced, this is normal for these engines. A compression test without adjusting the valves first will show erroneous readings. The how to on cam timing can be found in the engine manual.

it may not be the valves, but might as well try the simplest things, first, right
