G1 no battery’s
Fixing to bring home an early 80’s G1 that has zero batteries and possibly battery wires. Looks to have most everything else with the exception of a battery charger. I planned on using this as a donor cart for my 82 G1 gasser but my family is wanting me to weigh the options of making it useable. Can someone tell me how many batteries this takes , how the battery cable setup looks and how much all this is including a charger.

Serial number shows this to be a J22 1982 electric Yamaha. Does anyone have a picture of the battery setup in one of these? Thanks

I hooked up a single 12volt battery just to see if this cart would come to life but no luck. Honestly I don’t know if I even had the neg and pos right but I used my best guess after looking at a diagram. Will one battery be enough to tell me anything and if so where should I start trouble shooting? Thanks

No tow/run (not until 1996 in a yamaha). And you definitely didnt have it wired up right for a motor test. Search the site for Series motor test.

I have seen where people will use jumper cables and hook the battery straight to the electric motor and hook it to the A1 or A2 and the F1 or F2 post to see if it will run. Is there a way to hook this up correctly and if I hook it up incorrectly will I instantly fry the motor?

To test the motor itself (yours is a series motor) with a single 12 volt battery: Jack the rear wheels off the ground. Run a jumper from S1 to A2. Battery + to S2. Battery - to A1 motor should turn- slowly since it's only 12 volts.
The cart is designed to be 36 volts, so 6 - 6 volt batteries. It varies a bit depending on local pricing, but assume something in the $700 neighborhood. Unfortunately they are not something you can really get a deal on the internet for, because of the weight and the acid involved shipping is prohibitively expensive. The cables between the batteries CAN be bought online pretty reasonably. |
