there is fluid in the rear differential. the fill level is the black breather tube, make sure its level with the bottom of that hole.

what primary clutch do you have? if your unsure post a pic so we can recommend the correct removal tool. the stock one requires a tool to be bought as its an odd metric thread size. you can rig up a comet clutch removal tool with basic bolts. also order an secondary clutch removal tool unless you have a small bar puller and a few metric bolts.

I guess what im saying is, time to service both clutches.

Should the primary clutch move freely with the belt off? I tried moving it in and out and it was super tough.

Your clutch needs cleaned. It's probably sticking open and not engaging. Clean the shaft and bushing with some fine steel wool. A thin film of grease and you're good to go. This is a common clutch problem especially if it's been sitting a while.

Clean the shaft here and a little grease. It's probably gummed up with old grease and dirt. You may have to work at it. It's clean when it has a shine to it. Also the bushing on the outer sheave. This is the best pic I could get but the bushing is where the arrow is. Remove the C clip and everything will come off.

No. But I can't remember if you'll have the room to separate the clutch.

It was in need of a cleaning for sure. But I have done something wrong on the re assembly because the clutch only opens up part of the way at full rpm and I can see it slightly hanging up as it slows down along with a slight clicking sound. Is there any advice you have for re assembly of the clutch? Also the spring has a fixed metal piece on one end, I couldn’t remember which way that was originally facing but I put it to the clutch side of on the shaft.

When I cleaned mine I used brake cleaner on the whole thing and a toothbrush. All the grime and grit needs removed.

The 4 rollers/weights need lubed. The 4 plastic buttons and tubes need cleaned really good and lubed. For those I use the dry graphite spray lube.

The shaft needs all the rust and grime removed, as well as the bronze bearing inside where the shaft goes. All those dimples and grooves need to be cleaned super good. Then you can use some high temp grease on the bronze bearing, just a thin shmear. Don't use a lot of grease, it will spin and splatter all over the clutch.

The spring can wear out, and I don't believe they are available anymore. I stretched mine out about 1", not sure if that helped, but the clutch worked great after reassembly.

If you reassembled your clutch in reverse order you shouldn't have any binding. If your clutch still isn't opening all the way I would think it's either still dirty or there is something broken inside or out of place.

Does it matter which way the spring is facing?
