Old CC Transmission leak
So I've got a 93 carryall. Runs and drives great (rebuilt the motor in another thread here a couple months ago). But it's got a leak from the top of the transmission, where the shifter goes into the trans at the very top. I've checked exploded views and cant find a seal that would be up there. I checked the vent thinking maybe it was clogged and building pressure, but the vent is fine. Thought maybe it was overfilled but doesnt seem to be the issue either or it should have stopped when it got to a happy level.
Any idea what would make it leak from there? It's not a ton, makes a big mess on the top of the unit, but doesnt actually leak much fluid. Just enough to be annoying. If you've been into one of these or seen this before let me know. Honestly it's a cheap yard cart so I really have no intentions of pulling the trans apart and investigating further, but if it's something simple I'm just overlooking I'll fix it |

Re: Old CC Transmission leak
There is supposed to be an O-ring on the shifter shaft. Probably has turned to plastic and cracked. It does require disassembly of the trans to replace because the shift lever inside the trans will drop off and fall into the trans when you pull the shifter shaft. You Might be able to slide it out just far enough to pop a new o-ring on, but I wouldn't count on it.

Re: Old CC Transmission leak
Thanks buddy I couldn't find that on any of the exploded views or parts manuals.
I guess I'll periodically just check the oil every few months unless I get REALLY bored lol. I've been driving this thing a TON since I got the motor back together, and at the same time changed the oil in both halves of the trans. With nearly 2 months of LOTS of use it only took on about an ounce of oil to fill it back up to the bottom of the fill hole. Little bit of oil sure makes a lot of mess all the dirt certainly doesnt help either... |

Re: Old CC Transmission leak
Yep, even just a little bit of oil makes a big mess!
The parts diagram sort of shows it, but not really where it should be. I had to check in the service manual to find it. |

Re: Old CC Transmission leak
Yeah, definitely not clear at all in the parts diagrams. Thanks for taking the time to check
