Cart stops getting power if pedal goes more than half pressed
Recently purchased an unknown model or year golf cart with a custom body on it. It's a 36 volt cart that is on the older side. When you push the accelerator pedal in just a little it works perfectly but if it gets pressed more than 50%, power cuts off. Voltage on the batteries are fine. Does anyone have any idea what the issue might be or where to start?

Re: Cart stops getting power if pedal goes more than half pressed
Without knowing so much as the make of the cart it's tough to give anything firm. A few pics would do wonders. It could be that you have resistor cart. Resistor carts operate by sending current through some coil resistors that suppress current at lower speeds. IE, in low speed the current goes through a large resistor that removes a lot of current. In medium speed the current goes through a smaller resistor that allows more current to go through. In high speed there may be no resistor at all all all current is used for speed.
In the above set up, a series of solenoids are used to control which resistors have current going to them. A lot of time these solenoids go bad. IF your cart is a resistor cart then you could well have a failed solenoid for your middle speed. |
