how to wire lights through key
i am looking to put my lights on my key switch. I am tired of my outside cats jumping on it hitting the lights on and when i want to take a ride guess what battery dead. Is the key switch strong enough to handle lights and eventually a radio. what is the easiest way to wire this up so i dont have constant power at all times to the lights. I just want to hook them up to the key so that at least has to be on....

Re: how to wire lights through key
No, the key switch won't handle the amperage draw.
You could either tie in a relay, or just replace your toggle switch with a pull switch! |

Re: how to wire lights through key
Buy a simple horn/light relay at any auto parts store, and wire it so it is energized when the key switch is on. The lights will be powered thru the relay and not the switch.
You beat me to it, Don. |

Re: how to wire lights through key
You could remove your stock cc key and put in a Ezgo key with the aux output so you can control the lights that way. To do this though you will need to cut the plastic on the back side of you dash to do this, then just run two wires one from your 12V supply and a return back to the lights power.

I wish it were that easy LH!
Club Car had to be different with their gas carts and they use a multi-terminal key switch. |

Re: how to wire lights through key
That might work!
But, I'm thinking that replacing the toggle light switch with a "pull on" light switch would be the cheapest, and easiest to keep the cats from turning on 96's lights when he's not around! Yes/No? |

Re: how to wire lights through key
Yes a regular rocker switch or pull switch would most likely work.
