newbe needs advice lifting 88' ez-go gas
I am looking for pics, drawings, written advice, dvds, whatever, for lifting an 88' ez-go gas.
Do the available kits work well or is there a better way? I am handy with metal fab and welding so go ahead and let me know about serious mods. I am interested in 4"-6" as well as 10". Answer through site or e-mail alarep@aol.com thanks for your time |

Modern lift kits are a time saver. Pre-engineered and simple installation, typically. You can make your own. Here is a pic of what you will need for a simple block type kit in this thread, http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...-new-post.html
The A Arm kits often refereed to as 'long travel' kits offer a better ride. |

Re: newbe needs advice lifting 88' ez-go gas
Thanks scoty B.
First I better explain what my situation is, My son and I ride and race motocross. When we attend our local MN national we see these carts with amazing lifts and mods and my 6 year old son and I want one bad! But, since most of these carts start at about $2k I decided I should be able to do the mods myself. A co-worker has an ez-go gas(he thinks is an 88') and wants to get a newer one, but wants to sell this one to me for $500 first. So, I am very interested in it if I can figure out how to at least lift it and put bigger tires on. I have seen the "block" kits offered, but I am wondering about the loss of wheel base front to rear and how much room for larger tires there will be to the frame body? He may be wrong about what year he thinks it is. It has a "swing arm" rear suspension system. Motor, and rear end mounted solid to the swing arm. It appears that if you just block/lift the rear springs you get height but then start moving the axle forward(losing wheel base front to rear?) Doesn't this also move the axle closer to the body/frame? I guess what I am really looking for is pics of my model with the available kit installed to know what size tires are possible with kit, as well as other carts with more serious mods. I see a blue one, in this forum, of similar year with a high lift in rear and also a lift and forward stretch of front suspension. I thought he called himself "bustin-b" or something like that. I would really like to get more info on his cart. So, what is this "A" arm kit you refered to. Is that what you mean by what I call a rear "swing arm". Tell me more if you have time, thanks |

Re: newbe needs advice lifting 88' ez-go gas
You are looking at a Marathon 2 stroke cart. How much lift are you talking about? The best least expensive kits are made by Jakes. Their spindle lift kit raises and stretches the front out for clearance. The rear, well I have never seen a moderate lift address the wheelbase question. I have only lifted carts 6 or 7 inches & installed 23 inch tires without a problem. How much lift are you looking for? Keep in mind that stability is a consideration, also.
The A arm is just the better more expensive front end kit.....all the rears are about the same unless you go nuts. |

Re: newbe needs advice lifting 88' ez-go gas
thanks again scotty for the info,
I think I am looking for someone with pics and details on my same cart model/year. You wrote that you have done a few lifts. Have lifted this same model/year and have pics or instruction? I will run my serial # and make sure I get the right year model. Do you know where to look for that info on the cart? I found the tag with the ser/mod # Is there a tag somewhere with the actual year? What website will tell this info? |

Re: newbe needs advice lifting 88' ez-go gas
There is a web site if you google 'what year is my golf cart' you will find it or just post the manufacture # here and we can tell you. It is on a tag in the glove box area.
