Default pug wilderness II w570a belt

New here,
I bought a pug w570a recently and have a few issues with it. I am only able to get a top end of about 15 mph. It has a 18 hp vanguard that starts right up and I installed a new driven pulley. Belt too loose? There is not too much info on these machines so any help is appreciated.

Also, is this supposed to be a locked rearend? I noticed in the snow, only one rear wheel is spinning.

Thanks
Tony

The rear end isn't a locker by nature. They did make some with a manual lock. I have one of the Pugs too.

Mine belonged to my dad and when he passed last June I got it. It has been neglected by previous owners so needs work which I've started.

Tightening the belt was one of the things I did to mine. There is just a bit of adjustment so you can adjust the belt.

You should easily get better than 15mph. Mine was starting too lose a bit of speed on hills so I took off the belt cover and took a look at the belt. I measured it and it was right at 1 1/8" wide which is what you want.

I'll send you a link to where you can talk to someone and get parts you may need.

I recently put new brakes on the back of mine and also replaced the axle seals in the rear too.

Thanks for the response, getting anyone that knows anything about these machines is like a needle in a hay stack. I bought this one cheap, I put a new front differential (if you need one let me know, I know where to get brand new ones for $100) and new front half shafts in.

One problem I had with the primary clutch is getting it off the engine shaft to inspect. I'd get the bolt about an inch out and then it would start getting hard to turn so I just tightened it back in as i didn't want to strip it. Is there a trick to this?

Thanks again.

Luckily the front differential in mine had been out for quite some time so the CV shafts were still in good condition. So I just replaced the differential and it's been working well.

But $100 is a very good price and I'd be apt too pick up a spare when I have the extra $$$.

The thing about these machines is that they are american made and the parts and pieces used to build them weren't made specifically for them. So it can be problematic finding who made specific parts and where to get replacements.

I still need to do some work on mine. Mainly the front end. The bushings in the ends of the A-arms are worn and the struts need replaced as well. I'm going to take some measurements and try to find something to fit without paying an arm and leg.

This pug was my dads and I'm going to have it a long time and would like to get it back into good shape.

I'll send you a PM.
