Paint and Fab on 650 V-Star!
I bought a Yamaha 650 V-star back in April for a very good price. It was in pretty good shape other than laid down and a spot needing repaired on the right side of the fuel tank that was leaking. It also had custom shorty exhaust installed on it with a K&N air filter. This was done without rejetting the carbs which needed done. It ran crappy and needed some maintenance work as well.
So, I jetted the carbs and cleaned them out. Then changed the oil and also made baffles for the exhaust since it was custom and had none. And it was loud. I also welded, sealed and repaired the damage to the tank. I am now in the finishing phases of painting the bike...... It was a metalic blue when I got it but I had to ruin the paint on the tank to repair it. So..... since the wife likes Yellow and I thought I'd like to keep the bike (Thought if she liked the color she may let me keep a second bike) I obviously went with Sun Yellow. But, since the fender mounts, frame, wheels and lower forks have been powder coated black, the yellow really does look good. I'm finishing up the tank, but here are a few pictures: Here it is when I got it: Here is a picture of the rack/decoration I made. Since the bike is a solo it doesn't have a back seat and I wanted to break up the back fender a bit with something. This is what I came up with. I also thought about painting it, but figured that the aluminum would show thru too easily so polished it instead. Here it is mounted on the painted fender: |

Looking good, nice polishing on the aluminum piece, did you finish painting the tank? put up a complete picture when finished, would like to see the finished product.. what you paid for it and the work you did, if you ever decide to flip it i'm sure you'll triple your money..

Re: Paint and Fab on 650 V-Star!
I will be finishing up the tank today. I have to put another coat of paint on it and then clear coat it.
I hope that I can triple my money, but double would be good. It should look pretty good once I'm done with it. I have a bike rally/poker run coming up next weekend. I hope to have everything in order so I can take it along and try to sell it. Unless of course I change my mind again and decide to keep it. LOL Thanks for the compliment. I enjoy making things be it for golf carts or anything else. |

Ok, I finally finished up and have the bike painted and put back together. I hope to take it to a poker run and camp next weekend and maybe even get it sold! If not....... I'll at least get to ride it a little bit.

looks good, you should be able to pull an easy $2200.00/2600.00 for that, if not this year hold onto it until spring of next year, spring time is the best time to sell a bike, Man I know that bike is loud with them pipes.

Re: Paint and Fab on 650 V-Star!
Well, I just spent 3 days down at a bike rally/event that raises money for Vets. I took the yellow bike to just ride around the camp going from my camp back and forth to the stage.
It was a hit...... I had a lot of positive remarks/comments and everyone seemed to like it, a lot. Even when I couldn't hear it, people remarked positively as I rode thru. Got that second hand. I even had one guy tell me I had a nice old school Harley and he liked the look. Then he asked me what year it was. When I told him it was a 2006 he said " I thought it was an older Harley than that" I then informed him it was a 650 Yamaha..... He said, " Still a nice looking bike" He then jumped on his custom Harley and rode off shaking his head. LOL The more I rode it, the more I thought I may keep it. But, I think my daughter is interested in buying it, so it may get to stay in the family. |

Looks pretty good, well if the daughter wants it, their goes your profits, hell you might even lose money.... I use to sell stuff to my son at a discount, not anymore, he would want something that I have and beg me to sell it too him so I would, 2/3 weeks later he would turn around and sell it at a profit.. talk about pissing me off..
