Default Thoughts on the clone side by sides

Hey folks,

In the past on the mini atvs like 100cc and below the clones just weren't a good product. My neighbor has a clone of a Rhino for sale, a 2008 model. Now I need to verify the CC, which I think is 660. It has been maintained well and the parts he has replaced have been no problem. I can pick this up at half price of its Rhino counterpart. The main thing I see different in the brain of the unit. The Yamaha uses a ECM type where the clone uses a CDI box. Also about a 50lb overall weight difference.

What are your thoughts?

Not 100 percent sure in the make. But I think Hisun. While at Cabelas they have its twin for sale there with the Coleman emblems on it.

I don't know, I was looking at some at tractor supply and now menards has them. But a friend of mine bought a rhino for 4500 that was a few years old and looked like new. Its the smaller engine but nice ride. If used prices are less then not sure they are worth getting, and would have to make sure parts were around. Another guy bought a prowler for 7k or so, it had under 100 miles on it and couple years old. Yeah some of the clone utv are copies of rhinos, for those of you not into that. The clone engines we put in golf carts are copies of the honda small lawn engine.

Good point. I can pick this one up for around 3500. It has some nice add ons and runs extremely well. I just am concerned about longevity and parts availability and also return on assets. If I ever want to resale it.

Bottom line, you get what you pay for. If your worried about parts, longeveity, and resale, buy a SXS from one of the major manufacturers.
There is always a reason for something to be half price..........

Just my opinion.

I think another friend of mine paid 14k for a spanking new razor 800HO, but that is a different animal. Most of them tail ride and average 20-30mph, as the roads you can ride there have 25mph speed limit for ORVs, the trails are usually logging trails and plenty of corners/ruts/etc. Another guy has the utility polaris its wider, it works well for that.

I have not shopped them hard just seemed to me the price of the clones goes up every year and this year the price of new and used brand name seemed to go down for the first time I have seen. It could be only in this area I don't know, that was early this summer.

Have you guys seen that mini cone of the razor, the one for kids? It looks just like it, really cool little thing.

The clones around here just don't seem to be that cheap for some of them. I mean if you want the larger engine and 4x4 you are going to pay for a clone, while the brand name units mostly have all that stuff factory. Though I've not seen a utv from yami/kaw/AC/etc that was 2wd except an older very utility one with small suspension/etc. that would not be that great on a trail. Really most places I would ride you don't need 4wd, the real advantage is in the snow and mud.

Well.. My neighbor loves the clone but he needs a bench seat and bought a Ranger 500 LE or he would still keep the Rhino clone. Matter of fact there is a lot of things he loves about the clone more than the name brand. Thereason for the great deal is he's a good friend of mine.
