I found the Alum. for the tailgate it's 2" X 5" tubing. I'm going for 36" long and it will be 75" wide, it was scrap also so I need to cut it apart and clean it up with a flap disc. Mock it up and get it welded back together, my buddy has a spool gun for alum. that goes on his Miller mig welder.

Got the tailgate about half done, I ended up going 48". I had to quit on it to help my buddy fix a dump truck frame that is broke on one side.
I'll get some pic's of the gate in a couple of days.

Great job Lurch!

I started out with a rusty piece of s***, but it had a gate!
the only thing that's original is the frame, tongue, and gate...
I rebuilt it strictly to haul my cart!

Nice job Lurch!!! Love the tail gate. I wish I had an aluminum one. My old steel one on my 6x12 gets heavier every year.

Thanks guy's, I had to cut the spare tire mount off and start over. I'm using car wheels and tires and their just wasn't enough room to get the tire on and off with the tool box. I don't like it up so high but it is what it is. Other than painting the tailgate and a few other places I've had to work on I am done and glad of it.

Gota luv working with used stuff, In my case a lot more work but cheap!!!!

Your Tr. looks great also. A guy told me a couple day's ago he has an old camper tr. frame stripped down with 2 - 3500 lb axles, 1 is a brake for 200.00 I am always a day late or a dollar short.

Well I had a spare tire mount made and installed but when I went to put the wheel and tire on it I had problems. The S-10 wheels with 205/70/15's were to wide about 9" sidewall, had I used Tr. wheels and tires I would have been ok.
So I cut it off and cleaned up the mess and started all over, this is what I come up with. It is made out of the 1/4 wall 2 X 2 and seems to be good and sturdy. I had wanted the wheel & tire to sit real low between the tool box and rail but without buying trailer wheels & tires this is the best it gets. Here's a few pic's of it.

Do you think it will be OK!!!!!!!!

I think that looks good, and will be fine right where it is, as long as it's not in the way of the tool box lid.

I've also been wanting a spare tire mount...
I'm thinking on the drivers side rail, that way I can see in the side mirror that its there!

(long story...) in my first pic, the spare loosened up, and came off, it went under the trailer...
it bent the homemade I beam aluminum axle, then bounced off the bumper of the car behind me!
I, myself would prefer that IF the spare loosens, and comes off... that it bounces away from everything in sight!

just my .02

But... I trust that you've got it under control! (I've seen your work!)
