My "New-To-Me" side by side!
My dad passed away Sunday June the 8th. He has a lot of stuff and one of his prized posessions is an american made side by side. It's called a Pug and is 4 wheel drive. It also has a winch and roll cage as well as a manual dump bed. it's an older machine but is in good shape other than the front end for the 4 wheel drive needs some work. It runs using an 18hp Briggs for power and has a sealed belt and clutch system for deep water/mud use.
Anyway, he wanted me to have it and I'm taking it home. I've been driving it around here and love it. I know it's not a golf cart but will prove very useful once I get it home. Here is info on the UTV. It's a W570A 4X4 I've been using it around here for the last week and love it. Only thing I've found I don't like is the fact that the rear has no suspension. The rear is mounted directly to the frame. |

Thanks Lurch.
It's been a rough half year. Lost my brother in January and right before I headed down here for my dad, I had to take my wife to WV as her sister was in bad shape and we lost her May 30th. It has to get better................ |

Re: My "New-To-Me" side by side!
Well, I got the Pug home a couple days ago and it's already proving to be useful and fun. Wife and I took a long ride yesterday. She drove and I partook of a few cold drinks.
I still don't have the 4 wheel drive fixed in it but thanks to Sunoco I did flind a replacement front differential for the one that went out. I'm just waiting on delivery then I'll tear it down and do the repair. I'm also planning on fixing a few other items as well while it's apart. I'm also on the hunt for a lift for the bed. It's a bit heavy with anything at all in it, so want to put a powered lift on it for dumping. I know it's got plenty of torque and the wife loves driving it around. I'll post a few pictures later. |

The bed lift isnt gonna be cheap. But you can do it yourself with some inginuity and careful measuring. Typically people are using (and the kits from the manufacturers are using) a linear actuator for a bed lift that works off of a 12V circuit. Check out this site for some selection for cheap (cheap is obviously just a statement off of what a similar item is elsewhere).

Funny the bracket cost more than the actuator.......

I'm actually looking for the lift off an outboard engine. They are electric over hydraulic and would work great. The mounting brackets and such I can fab myself.
For now, I just won't be doing any dumping. |

Re: My "New-To-Me" side by side!
Woo Hoo.......... With help from Sunoco I got the 4x4 working again. I also took the bed off and cut out and replaced the very back bottom rail that goes all the way across the back/bottom of the bed. It's good as new again.
I have the linear actuator off a lift chair. Only thing is it's 18 volt with a power supply that plugs into 120. So if I use it I'll put a power invertor on and try and see if it works ok. If so, I'll probably put it on the bed and see how it works then. Anyone have any pictures of how I might attach the actuator and what angle I might have to install it at? I can figure it out with trial and error if I have too, but thought I'd ask here first. |
