thats the only thing that scares me about doing this is that I'm in florida and there is no sleds down here obviously would have to scavage ebay and whatnot to source everything most likely

i do like the idea of 40hp in a golf cart though

Even in south jersey more or less the same situation. Both of my engines are off Ebay from up in the frozen north snowmobile area of the US. Some of the sellers are aware of putting the engine in golf and go carts and will do what they can to help you. Others strip every part off the engine they can to make the max profit. Just have to find the right seller.

Did a little trouble shooting on Suzi today and the problem is in the fuel system. The pickup in the tank is not the problem. Beginning to suspect the fuel pump. Didn't start on the pump issue today. Sunny but not that warm to work outside for very long.

While I was building Suzi one piece of motivation came in the form of Rifter's "What happened to these builds" file. Alas it looks like many of the snowmobile projects ended up that way also.

You have had Suzi running for about 2 plus years, how do you feel about low rpm cruising? From my 2 stroke experience which goes from airplane engines to Detroit diesel engines -- they run best at full rpm - look at your fingers and say it was just idling.

Suzi's engine idles is set at 1200-1400 rpms. She seems happy from 2500 her 6500 rpm red line. There is an extra burst of power from about 3500 and up. From what I have read the twin cylinder single carb snowmobiles are in general more tractable then the twin carb models. She is geared for about 38 mph at 6500 rpms so with the 40+ hp she can really roar to top speed. I spent quite a bit of time on clutch springing and a lot of time on making the linkage to the VM mikuni 34 mm carb getting full travel and linear. Again I could only fit 20" tires into her very basic frame. But the net result is she can smoke a tire on dry pavement with just a snap of the throttle. Her throttle response is perfect. IF I were ever to build a 3rd cart it would be a sled engine in a better cart. That being said I need another cart like I need another hole in my head. The down side is that at certain speeds you get a good whiff of the 50/1 mix I run in her tank. I suspect with a full windshield fumes might be a problem. P.S. A lot of the 60"s 2 stroke twin cycles were decent bikes. I had a 71 kawasaki 500 cc mach III that was ported, decked rejetted with velocity stacks. It was a hairy ride but that would blow most anything else of the road of that era other than the later 750 cc triple.

I rode a stock Kaw 500, that thing was something. It was a big bike and pretty tractable, but you could roll the gas on and pull the front tire lol. The good synthetic oils burn pretty clean, experiment with them. I like to use that and add some benol here and there, it smells so good, just a little bit lol. I put it in my weedeater. Usually you can mod the carb to be a little leaner at low throttle and it will smooth out, they don't do that with sleds because you never use tiny throttle in snow with a track....and richer is safer in cold temps you don't stick a piston when you let off. Yes they will still stink some, its the nature of the beast. G1 always did and they are way high ratio, but not too bad. I think with much less WOT use than a sled and todays great synthetic oils you can run a lot less oil like 80:1 or less oil and they would be fine if you are not racing it. I think many run 100:1 in G1s. With a sled you are always pulling a track and snow, you never run under about 20% throttle.
