Best In-NEV GPS System?
With everyone getting their NEV's, has anyone researched GPS systems? I'm looking for a GPS system that will only route me on roads 35MPH or less in speed.
Thoughts? |

interesting idea, wonder if there is anything on the market like that. In MD we have to stay on roads under 30mph so that may be a bit more challenging for me.

Re: Best In-NEV GPS System?
Have you ever driven on a road that was labeled 35 MPH and someone actually did 35 MPH??? More like 40+ Once you get on the roads I believe you'll find that most of your driving will be on street roads around 25 MPH, maybe 30. On the 35 MPH roads doing 25-27 MPH you will be surprised how many nasty people will be blowing their horns at ya! Been doing this with mine for the last several months... had lots of nice folks waving their birthday finger at me while driving and blowing by me oh so close!
Maybe your states will be different... PS... Love my Garmin set for speedo view as well... works great! Good Luck! |

I agree with scubabud .
I intend to drive these on 25mph-limit roads. Not looking to be 'that guy'. :D |

it would be nice if there was a navgataion that would let you set the max MPh for the road and configure a route based on that criteria though.

Re: Best In-NEV GPS System?
They are so cheap nowadays it's a no brainer. I think the speedometer, trip odometer, and street maps make GPS mandatory. My biggest concern is theft. For that reason I'll probably buy a cheaper one. The last garmin I bought came with a great mount. It was supposed to suction cup to the window. I didn't like the way it blocked the view, so I made a plastic tray that attached to the dash. It now mounts in front of the factory stereo. It doesn't block road view and is less visible to prying eyes (thieves).

I don't fully understand why the law regarding LSVs is like what they are in most states. At this point in SC it's to your advantage to have a normal "golf cart" you just have to have insurance and a $5 sticker from the dmv and your good to go on 35mph roads. The LSVs have much tougher guidelines to follow. |

The GPS is a great idea since we have no speedo. I've got a cheapo unit gathering dust in the closet that I will integrate by means of duct tape and staples.

My blackberry storm2 works well as a speedometer. I'm sure other GPS phones could be used as well.
