Default Fairplay customer major screw up

About a month ago, a customer had me come and get her cart at her house. The rear brakes were locked up, and it wasn't running at all. We had to winch it on the trailer, and brought the charger with us, which the customer had wrapped up in a black bag. We got it to the shop, and started working on it, got the brakes freed up, and charged all the batteries individually, then load tested them. They were bad so we told the customer and they said they were under warranty. We pulled the batteries and the customer came and got them to go deal with the warranty issue. They brought the batteries back a few days later, stating that the place they bought them from would not replace them but did some kind of reconditioning to them. I put them back in, and made new cables for the cart. I drove it around a little, and it seemed to be working fine, so I got the charger out to hook it up to the cart, and thats when I saw it. The charger was a 48V, and the batteries were 6 6V batteries, for a total of 36 volt. I called the customer and asked who had changed the batteries out last year, and she told me it had been her son in law. I told her that the reason the batteries had gone bad in the first place was that her son in law had taken 6 old 8V batteries out of the cart, and replaced them with the new 6V batteries, then she was charging with a 48V charger, and over charging the new batteries. I don't know if the reconditioning done to the batteries will hold up, but the customer asked me if she could simply keep using the 36V batteries, and get a 36V charger, which would be cheaper than replacing all the batteries in the short term. I was not sure what to tell her, so I am asking you guys. Will it hurt her carts control box to run the cart on 36V batteries??? Hope someone can tell me cuz I am new to the biz.

I don't think it will hurt any thing, But never done it before,, If the cart is a 48v cart. why don't you put 2 more used 6v batteries in the bag well and make it 48volts problem solved
