Default two speed switch

I have an 09 Star Cart, which has the 1268 controller. I have a two-position switch, which only gives me on/off. I want to utilize the 2-speed option in the controller so I can have a "drive on the road" mode at 25 MPH and a "drive on the beach" mode at ~13 MPH (The speed limit on the drive-on beach in New Smyrna Beach Florida is 10 MPH, and they are quite adamant about enforcement).

So, looking at the 1268 controller manual, I want to put a switch on the M1/M2 input to be able to put it in M1 or M2. Does anybody know which wire this is in the dash board? Does anybody know where I can get a 3-way ignition switch? If I can find the right wire but can;t get a 3-way ignition switch, I may just put in a toggle button.

thanks in advance

Default Re: two speed switch

You may not find one. Many of these units were not provided with a Mode1/Mode2 switch. The mode switch is wired between Ji-20 (J1 being the Controller) and J1-4. Mode 1 is open and Mode2 is closed. I can tell you from hard experience to use caution with the controller connector pins. I had one fall out when I removed the connector and the unit was bricked until I figured out which hole it went into. Do yourself a favor and write down where the wires go or take a good color photo before you pull the connector.

Whether you will get high speed/low speed from this switch is dependent upon how M1 and M2 are programmed in the controller.
