Default Curtis Controller 1286 fault on Tomberlin

I need some help folks. I am getting a five five fault on the Curtis 1286 controller on my Tomberlin cart. Not sure I understand what it means or what to look for.

Fault code five five; Main Contactor Open.

The cart jerks but won't move very far. Not sure if it's the speed sensor, a solenoid or controller issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Haven't changed the batteries yet. They are on my list!!!! I don't think it's the batteries, I am getting a good voltage across them.

I think it's the Main Contactor.

Any thoughts?

Good voltage across them standing still or under load? If your voltage is dropping enough under load the solenoid may be dropping out.

New batteries & now I have a smoking jerking motor. Think the motor is smoked due to the crap batteries I had. Will run test on motor tomorrow. I knew I should have replaced them long ago!!!!

Any resolution to your problem? I just experienced the same issue. Replaced batteries, took it for a test drive. Ran great, had it maxed out at 25 and started smelling some burning. Slowed down and went home. Tried going again and it would only crawl.
