2010 Tomberlin Vanish starts then stops
Hello, I recently picked up a 2010 Tomberlin Vanish that needed some tlc.
I am mechanically able, and electrically competent, but alas a newbie to the electric vehicle world. I have performed maintenance on the batteries and cables, and have charged the vehicle. I have 53 volts across the battery pack. when the accelerator is pressed slowly the vehicle will run, and slowly build up speed. Then there is an audible click around the motor controller and the vehicle stops. If the key is cycled off and on the process repeats. At this point I am lost. Thanks in advance for any advise. |

Start with one of the batteries dropping out voltage wise. What you are describing is a common issue of a bad battery.

Re: 2010 Tomberlin Vanish starts then stops
So would I need to have all the batteries load tested? Or is there a test I can do myself on the batteries individually?
Thank you |

check them with a meter under load, if this is your problem, it will be obvious

Re: 2010 Tomberlin Vanish starts then stops
The click you're hearing is likely the main solenoid. It needs 48 volts on the smaller posts of the solenoid to open, which thereby gives power to the controller. Load test your batteries, if that doesn't work you need to monitor the voltage on the solenoid to see if you're getting a voltage drop under load.
I just had a very similar issue, but my cart finally stopped all together, it was found to be a corroded solder joint in the factory harness. Good luck. |

I love working on Tomberlins. No body knows how to work on them, and it costs a fortune to fix them.

Forgot to provide an update. Replaced batteries and everything is good. Batteries were original, and two were bad.
