2010 Tomberlin Brake Hits Floor
Guys. I have a 2010 Tomberlin E2 500 and the brake pedal is hitting the floor and feels overall spongy. I can pump for a second and get another inch or so in strength and it will last for a while. I have checked the brake fluid.. Good. I have have bleed the two front calipers and rear drums several times. It increases it when I do slightly... but not by much. No visible leaks or any fluid underneath.
When they work. It's rock solid.. they clamp tight and stop. So it's not worn pads or issues. It seems something needs adjusting etc. The cart is extremely clean, not abused.. but I can't increase the pedal up a bit and make it stay. Please give me some insight cart gurus. Thanks in Advance. White Tomberlin or White Tom! |

Also.. the Ebrake... locks back tires with one click literally. Just to give you a reference of good pads still

I think I may have found the issue thanks to the manual posted above. It sadly looks like the master cylinder since I have no leaks. Any suggestions/sources on cheap, factory parts?

Re: 2010 Tomberlin Brake Hits Floor
I found the 2010 Maintenance Manual for the Tomberlin Emerge E2 here. This was very useful as I didn't have this before..
The manual references in Chapter 7.1 the entire brake system explode. It states that in "In case of non compliance with the specification, the brake master cylinder is to be replaced". Questions: 1) Does the Master Cylinder rod need to be extended or elements loosened to close this close tolerance? Will this restore it the pedal higher? 2) I've bled the system front and back. No Ebrake on. Everything off. Pumped the Brakes and Bleed each wheel. If I have bleed the system wrong or have a central bleed pont. Please advise on the procedure - please!! 3) IF parts.. where can I get the replacement Master Cylinder? How much does it cost? Parts seem extremely hard to locate for the Tomberlin? |

Re: 2010 Tomberlin Brake Hits Floor
Ok. I've contacted a few Tomberlin dealers and they say this is a very common Tomberlin Emerge problem and a typical Master Cylinder replacement solves this issue. So I ordered one. Once it arrives and I install... I will let everyone know if it solves my issue.
Btw.. I asked the Dealer if the Tomberlin company was still in business and solvent and they stated, YES and just had a Tomberlin Rep come by yesterday, August 13, 2012, and offered specialized training from some of their in house techs. So that is a plus to hear from an existing Tomberlin owner. They said that parts are sometimes a bigger issue to get full filled.. but were hoping that would get better. I was wondering if any of you gurus know if 2010 Tomberlin up Master Cylinders were repurposed ( cross part number with another usage ) or a complete new fabricated unique design? |

Re: 2010 Tomberlin Brake Hits Floor
Tomberlin Emerge E2 - Brake Hits Floor Followup: Success! The Brake Bleeding Service Bulletin solved it. ( follow entire instructions )
The instructions basically say to jack stand the cart. I did. Check the lines from your brake fluid container as some zip ties are way to tight and crimp the line. ( Mine were crimped very badly. So I removed the zips and replaced them. ) Make sure your bleed fittings are tight. Rotate your Master Cylinder lines as far as possible to the right. Loosen the rear bolts on the front Brake calipers and rotate them upward while still on disk to free trapped air. Then start the bleeding process of Rear passenger first, Driver Rear, Passenger front wheel, and then Drivers wheel. You start from the greatest distance to the shortest to MC. Have a friend PUMP the brake extremely vigorously over 20 plus times and begin the bleed process for each wheel until no bubbles and clear fuild. You pump and hold, Bleed ( until no air bubbles come out of the line - don't lift off of brake pedal until the nipple is secured back or it will suck air back in ) the sequence of wheels.. being sure to not let your brake fluid empty completely out or you will have to start the process all over again. Be sure to button everything back up in reverse sequence and tighten all your bolts. Note: I used VERY expensive tools as seen here to bleed mine ( Foam Sealer Clear Nozzle tube that fit snug on the nipple into a Coke Can ). It worked perfectly! Synopsis: I searched high and low for the right answer and it paid off. I was able to get in contact with Christian Winkler a Technical Service and Support Specialist ( http://www.tomberlinoutdoor.com ) and he forwarded this Service Bulleting linked above. Thanks Christian! I followed the steps outlined exactly and my brake pedal is now restored with just a few minutes of time. I love my Tomberlin Emerge E2 and this experience has improved my confidence in Tomberin to continue to troubleshoot and support their products. |

Re: 2010 Tomberlin Brake Hits Floor
Did you try this specific Service Update? It's more than just bleeding. It's checking for crimped lines and a specific bleed order and method. The shops are charging for a complete new MC when it's not required.
