Default A small hill in the woods

Haven't put on a shorter belt yet, but I wanted to see what it would do.

It doesn't look real steep, but check out the right front tire on the second run, at about the 37 second mark.

Fun, that is a beautiful stand of trees. Do you have interesting critters around?

Yeah a little bit of everything, deer, turkey, raccoon, coyote, fox, and a bobcat every so often. There is about 300 acres here that lies within a big bend in a river. The incline I go up was at some time an island in the river. Today the river channel is about 1/2 mile away. The island or higher ground averages about 50 yards wide, and is about 200 yards long. On the side across from where I'm riding it's easy to see it was once a channel of the river, and when we have any high water, like during ice out in the spring, this area will flood and hold water.

Because of the flat ground the river moves around quite a bit. Usually it takes a lot of rip rap placed on the outside bend to stop the river from moving. So it's hard to say where the channel has actually been hundreds or even thousands of years ago.

This past summer I found a couple bones on a sandbar. At one spot where logs were buried by the sand I saw something, and ended up digging out a bison skull. Over the next month or so I picked up quite a few assorted bones. Had them checked at the local university to make sure what I had. They are from bison bison which is the modern bison. So the bones could be hundreds of years old, or up to 10,000 years old.

The last picture is where I found the skull. I took the picture after I figured out what it was, but it is still in the sand. About all you can see is a round bone, which is where the skull attaches to the neck.
