Default Dual option mode on the Zone controller

I'm curious about the dual mode option on the

Zone Spark controllers

. At the 5k foot level it sounds like you can set up two configurations and then switch between the two with a toggle switch. But programming the controller appears to be non-trivial.

It would be good for me cause I'm using mine at our lake house. A low speed high torque option for the back and forth to the dock verses a high speed option for running around the neighborhood. I wonder if there is a send your controller to be programmed service by anyone. I just can't see investing in the cable and messing with the software.

These are my thoughts exactly james. Up in the site sponsor area, Electric Motor Products, Inc. makes a dual mode, F/R type rocker switch that would fit my needs. That's why I have been trying to find out what brand or model# motor these Zone cars have so I can see if they will have something that will work. They have a pretty neat questionaire you can fill out (when I really have a car) and send to them and apparently they will make recommendations based on your needs. On the fly switching would be a lot better than having to stop and change speed chips. Might want to take a look.

I don't think we need to worry about the motor as much as the controller. If you look at the pdf Curtis_Motor_Controller_Datasheet_1268_RevC.pdf you'll see that the schematic hookup shows a mode switch. I think that allows you to choose between two different controller configurations. Based on the rest of the info we've heard I do not think that switch exists on the zone because of the lsv requirements. So I'm thinkin (still to be proven right or wrong) that adding the switch is easy. It's programming that second configuration in the controller that is the challenge. Other stuff I've read says that you need a serial cable with a hook up to the controller and some software for your pc to do that. Since I'd only do it once it sounds like a bit of a burden. That's why I'm wondering if you cans end it off to get it done?

The software is readily accessible......I heard it's the same that Curtis uses for the electric wheel chairs, etc. Krusty0001 put together a cable (pic's, diagrams and software posted somewhere) and has the software ready to try when he get's a car to try it on.

Yea, I've heard that. So you're thinking you're going to program your controller yourself?

Some of the Star LSV's are coming with this switch already installed. A friend on mine has one (I'm still waiting on my Star like you "Zoner's"). He does switch his on the fly frequently.

Will this work just to limit the speed of the cart. Since this goes much faster than the EZ go we had before, I need to limit the speed my 13 year old nephews can go when they drive around the neighborhood.

My Star has this and in low its like a stock cart in hi it is suppose to be over 20mph. I was thinking of a key switch when my 12 year old starts driving it.

Yeah I forgot it has to be something they can't easily change back once they get out of sight.
