G16 suddenly stopped working
 

G16 suddenly stopped working while riding up the driveway. I have used the sticky. Was able to get it to power every once in a while but if it started then it wouldn’t work again after. I have ruled out new battery, new solenoid, I have a new start stop switch but it is 3 wire and the harness on my cart is a 2 wire. Cart is a 98 G16AS

I'm guessing if you don't have the correct start/stop pedal switch then it won't work. Try that first.

Anyone have a part number to the 2 wire stop switch. I’ve bought 2 now for the specific year and both came as 3 wire

I just did a quick search online and found this part number, #14 in the diagram. Don't just take my word for it though, do your homework and buy from a reputable dealer. Check in the site sponsors page for some of our sponsor dealers, they might be able to help you. Don Plowman at Plowman's Carts is also a Yamaha specialist, might try him.

Thanks got the start stop switch swapped out and still nothing. What else am I missing. Going to swap the key switch as I’m having different issue with it today. Not sure what else without rebuilding the harness completely

Instead of ordering and replacing as a troubleshooting method, try unplugging components and jumping them with a wire or better yet use a meter to test parts and circuits.

Mine did that and I replaced the starter brushes…Does it turn over?

Right now nothing once I replaced the stop switch I’m not even getting the solenoid click it has a new starter in it The old one needed brushes and my second cart was missing a starter so I bought a new one for it. Used it on this one to cross diagnose. Daughter was riding it and it just stopped. I’ve had it running 2 times since then but no luck now. I’ve checked continuity checked all electrical connections and checked for brittle or broken wires. I did have a voltage drop on battery when it tried to turn over last week from 12.58 down to 3v. That’s why I changed the battery. Now since the new battery and the start stop switch it’s acting like there is no power at all

Check battery (main power) cables for corrosion.

Are you getting 12v at the large lug at the solenoid? 12v on one small terminal and ground on other small term when attempting to start?

Finally got it going again. It was the key switch giving me intermittent loss in power luckily I had the other cart that needed parts so the new ones aren’t wasted.
