Not sure if this goes here or in Extreme Carts, but it's a Club Car so here goes. My eight trojan 105 six volts are about six years old and running out of steam, and my homemade camo paint job has taken a beating, so it's time for an overhaul. Just ordered my Leaf Batteries. Pics are below. I don't know how to do the signature thing, so here is a description of the cart: 1993 Club Car DS converted to solid state with one of scottyb's conversion kits. HD solenoid and F&R switch. FSIP 700amp controller, and custom plum quick torque motor. 4 inch a-arm lift and 22" tires. Voltage reducer and headlights added.
I'm sure I'll have lots of questions. About to place my charger and BMS order. the 1993 Club car DS is a tight fit, and the best way I've seen it is to build a box around the old battery compartment, which is exactly what I am going to do. Will keep you updated. |

Your cammo paint is in need of "freshening up." Instead of painting, you may want to consider a cammo wrap.
I've purchased from this place http://www.camotruckwraps.com/produc...lls-and-Sheets in the past and can attest to this stuff holding up to hunting "situations." The roof of my cart is Lexan and when I installed it about 5 years ago, I use this companies wrap on the top. After 5 years of rain, snow, heat and cold....it still looks as good as the day it went on. Well....a few tree limbs have scuffed it.....but it still looks great!! FWIW |

Finally, a 14 module leaf system in as DS hunting cart. I'm definitely tuned into this. Does the pic of the unequal split pack indicate best way for it to fit? It must be a mental block for me but I have the hardest time figuring out the copper bus bars I see in pics and how the voltage increases module to module.
BTW: I really like the mud camo. Keep us posted along the way. |

His bus bar picture is clear as day - that is how you do a split pack with 14 modules.

So . . . my batteries are here and as displayed above. I already have my first question. I've read a lot about pre-balancing cells before connecting a BMS. However, it's not clear if that's necessary. For example, here is what Orion says about their BMSes
The first step is to determine if you need to pre-balance cells or not. If your cells are already in balance, pre-balancing is obviously not necessary. Likewise, if the amount of time it will take the BMS to balance your cells is acceptable, no pre-balancing is necessary . . . For small battery packs such as 40 – 100 amp hours, it may be acceptable to simply allow the BMS to balance over the course of a few days regardless of how out of balance the pack is. It also talks about "roughly balanced" cells probably not needing pre-balancing. so, my question is, how close is "roughly balanced?" If cells are within 1/10th of each other? 1/100th? I have a volt meter that will go out to 1/1000th, but that hardly seems necessary. orion also says that "simply connecting in parallel will not allow enough current to flow to balance the pack" and so you must charge while in parallel or charge each individual cell. thanks. |

All I did to "pre-balance" my Leaf pack was to simply wire 'em together in a series. I used an 12 or 14 gauge wire to do this. I left the pack wired together for about 5 days or so...then tossed the small pieces of wire into the trash. Worked just fine. FWIW |
