Drum Brake Issues

Hi all,

I'm having an issue I can't sort out. One of my rear drums keeps self-adjusting until it's dragging. I've taken it apart, lubed it, backed off the adjuster and re-assembled, but it keeps getting to tight after a few days. Other than that it seems to work normally.

Any ideas??

2001 CC DS Electric.

I've read posts lately about leading and trailing brake pads installed wrong; did you do a brake job recently?

I did. Re-assembled exactly as I found them...but that doesn't mean they weren't installed wrong when I got it. I don't have a service manual for this cart yet but I'll try to find a diagram on the web to be sure I have them in correctly.

Re: Drum Brake Issues

The brake shoes should be stamped 17T (Trailing) & 17L (Leading). These stamps should be visible and oriented to the top of the brake assembly. When installed on the backing plate, the leading shoe (17L) is always oriented towards the rear of the cart and the trailing shoe (17T) is always towards the front of the cart.

I had the same issue and after taking it apart ten times I just bought an assembled drum and installed it

LOL... so L is to the back...not leading and the T is the front, not trailing. Totally makes sense.

Thanks

I'll have a look.
