G1 clunking noise?
Hello. Sometimes on take off I can hear a clunking sound coming from the rear of me cart. It seems to do it more in reverse. If I rock the cart back and forth I can hear it in both directions. Is this normal?

Lift the seat and watch the secondary clutch, it may need a little grease
be sticking slightly open. |

Re: G1 clunking noise?
The clutches are drive (on the engine) also called primary clutch,
driven (the one on the rear axle) also called secondary. There is a grease zerk on the movable(inside) sheave give it one pump. |
Re: G1 clunking noise?
Also are you near the cart now? can we discern that that is your clunk?

Re: G1 clunking noise?
Its clutches or inside the rear, better to be clutches. It may not have a grease zerk some didn't. Otherwise on the secondary (big clutch on trans) grease the shaft inside the spring on back side. Don't get a bunch on it you don't want it all over or on belt. Also check the plastic pucks that ride on the ramps there they can break and will chew up the ramps.
If you have a grease fitting this is a photo of a G9, it will be at end of arrow http://usera.ImageCave.com/sho305/greasedrivencopy.jpg |

Re: G1 clunking noise?
I almost forgot, normally you put one pump of grease in so it does not come out. You might do two if its been a long time but watch for excess to come out. Some of the primary clutches have a fitting at the edge of the cover, the G9 type on some G1 have it. The square looking original G1 clutch I don't think it does you have to pull it off the cart.
Yeah I keep using that photo over and over lol. Here is one of the ramps, but G1 ramps go both directions 4 stroke carts only go one direction like these: http://usera.ImageCave.com/sho305/secondaryramps.jpg |
