Muffler filling up with gas
I have an 86 Marathon a 244cc 2pg. The cart runs good and stong. I filled it up the other night and the next morning gas was on the floor of the garage. Its running out the carb and filling the muffler just sitting. Sounds odd but it will eventually turn over after swapping it from forward to reveverse to get the pressure out then smokes like a chimney dropping raw fuel then runs strong. Cleaned the carb thinking it was a stuck float but continued the same thing the next night.
Any Ideas??? Is fuel suppose to go pass the fuel pump just sitting?? Maybe the float is still sticking?? Just lookin to see ideas or if it has happen to anyone else. Thanks! Also all the fuel lines and filters are new. The only thing I did differnt was add some marvel mistey oil to the fuel. |

Maybe the float is still sticking?? or there is some crud in the inlet needle.
STOP rocking it when it does this, you could hydraulic a rod or piston. |
Re: Muffler filling up with gas
DOOmsman is correct you need to stop doing that before you blow out your crankshaft seals or worse.
You have a defective fuel pump. Gas is leaking past the diaphragm and into the crankcase via the vacuum vent. Overnight it fills the crankcase until it reaches the cylinder whence it leaks past the rings and out through the exhaust port. Buy a new pump for $33 and you will be fit to rock and roll again. Re: Muffler filling up with gas
Thanks for the quick responses guys. I will quit rocking the motor. I'll order a new fuel pump and go from there. The entire motor is original and runs great. Dont want to harm the little sucker. Ill take and soak the carb again as well.
Thanks again for the precaution. |
