Retro Powerwise board in a Powerwise II
 

My timer board fried. Replacements are ridiculously priced. Spoke to dealer who said they use the cheaper E-Z-GO 28667G01 Input Board-Power Control (Powerwise). Wondering if anyone has a schematic and or pic of this retrofit completed. Best way to mount board? Thanks!!

Thanks David. Had found that one. Good information there. Any advice on how to mount that board in a Powerwise II charger? Anything else as far as wiring need to change?

I have a PW-II with the cover off sitting on my workbench in the shed, but the snow is to deep between here and there, to go look. :mrgreen:

I'm pretty sure there is room where the existing control module and relay board are mounted for the retrofit board. Just make sure none of the runs on the new board can touch the chassis or cover.

The wiring appears to be pretty straightforward. Here is a schematic for a PW-II and the drawing on the last page of the PW two board to single board upgrade that dvmartin posted above tells you which wire goes where.

Once the board has been changed, the charger will work just the same. All the board does is turn the charger on and off. The charge profile is built into the ferroresonant transformer and capacitor pairing.

Nice. Thanks for the info. I was with ya til the last statement:lhmo: this is good news. Just not sure why they are so proud of the 5955 timer. You would think they would reduce its price since this option is the obvious choice ( although it took me 6 months to figure it out.):wink:

Ordering the board now.

Prolly be back here when it arrives with a photo to make sure I am right before the smoke test:shock:

Sorry 'bout that. :mrgreen: I was just trying to say that with or without the 5955 timer (or control board) a PW-II can still be used to charge batteries without harming them.

Bypass the relay as shown in the attachment and you can use it as needed to keep your batteries charged will waiting for the replacement parts to arrive. It would probably be best not to let the charge cycle last more than about a day, but other than that, use it like you had been using it.

Basically, the charger is the transformer, capacitor and diodes. All the control board is, is a semi-smart on-off switch.

Roger that. I found that bypass back when I was troubleshooting last year just to make sure there wasn't other damage. Figured it would be okay to use the charger but wondered if it stepped the amperage down or was gonna be wide open the hole time. Was to worried I would forget it was on. Hopefully this other board will show and I can sell this one to help offset my new dpi on the way to 48v. Thanks again.

Smoke test complete. Charger came on at about 12 A for approximately one minute then shut completely off. Pack was mostly fully charged having been on float charger. Voltage at 38.87 after 15 min. Guess all is well. Just have to find best way to mount new board. Thanks to all.
