91 Marathon Engine Swap
I'm looking to swap out my engine in my 91 Marathon because I want to go faster, as do we all. It runs fine now, just looking to go faster. My question is two-fold:
1. What Engine do I currently have, 2-stroke or 4? I have Reverse and I have an oil pump (although it doesn't work so I have to do the gas/oil mix) 2. What Engine "kit" could I fit in there without doing any fab work? I've seen the Honda and Briggs & Stratton kits, but I don't know if either will work on my frame without having to refab the frame. I don't have a lift kit on it now. It looks like I might need one to put a bigger motor in there? Not a problem if I do. As long as they make one for my old cart. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. |
Re: 91 Marathon Engine Swap
OK. So I've figured out that I do have the 4 stroke. So now I'm just looking at Engines. I don't have to worry about changing out the rear axle to make it spin the right way.
So does anyone have any ideas on Engines? |
Re: 91 Marathon Engine Swap
To put a V-twin Briggs or Honda you'll have to lift it about 4"
I tryed to put one in a stocky if you do that you loose ALL your ground clearance and opposed cylinders engines are to long and you have stretch the swing arm. Todd |
Re: 91 Marathon Engine Swap
Thanks for the response TODWIL. So it sounds like I have to put at least a 6 inch lift kit on it just to have enough clearance under the cart and stretch the swing arm. What do you mean when you say "opposed cylinder engines are to long"? Does that mean the Briggs and Honda's basically won't work in my cart?

Re: 91 Marathon Engine Swap
I upgraded the engine in my '91 marathon too.
If you're going with atleast a 4 inch lift might as well fit as much power between the framerails as physically/financially possible. http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...7/DCP_3062.jpg Good luck and post some pictures. |
