EZGO Workhorse Project

My apologies for having to start this new thread. I'll try to keep this one organized.

Got this cart for free and thought I was going to spend a few bucks fixing it up and have some fun with it. RIGHT. Engine was shot. Kids had beat the hell out of it and smacked something real good. Rust was bad as shown in these first pics. Whatever they hit had enough force to blow away the rust that was holding the frame together.

Brad's a welder for the Maintenance crew at Weber BBQ. He said he'd help me replace and reinforce the damaged sections of frame. I use to work in a body shop as a kid but I was afraid to "stick" it and Brad had a mig. Incredible welder.

I'm still not done sand blasting everything and have already eaten up 15 - 50# bags of black blast. Rust was horrible but we got everything off. Took almost 2 weeks of spare time.

Jer (son came over) and helped me disassemble the rear end. He worked his butt off getting the brake assemblies off and wire wheel the splines for the hubs. We blasted that too and he wire wheeled the aluminum casing.

Took a full week for me to get the frame painted. Underside wouldn't dry and I finally got to flip it today (9/11/10) and finish it off. Will start assembling the front and rear end next weeked. Spent all day cleaning the garage while the paint was setting up outside but I finally got a part of the shop back.

Skipper

You have a nice clean rebuild going on there, looks great, what are the rest of your plans?

I finished sandblasting and painting the front spindles and brake drum today along with the gas pan and battery pan. I had bought a Jake's 6" lift kit and will install it next weekend. Powerplant is a 23 hp Vanguard. I know I'm going to have to makeup some new linkages. Will send some pics next weekend.

Looks like a AAA refurbish job. Try some Krylon Fusion spray paint for all the plastic stuff. Just wash and paint = stuff looks like new.
Keep us posted on your progress.
