EZGO Shuttle 4 - High Speed motor, lift kit, etc?
 

I'm potentially picking up a 2005 EZGO Shuttle 4 today (2 rows of seats + cargo bed on back). It has the 5 lug wheel pattern and I've read there is currently not a turn key lift kit available. It's a 48 volt motor. I believe it currently tops out a 13-14 mph. Is there a high speed motor option for a 48 volt ezgo? I've seen the Club Car 48 volt and EZGo 36 volt but didn't see a 48 volt ezgo yet. Or any other options to increase the speed a little?

Stock speed is 12-15 MPH and speed cost money, how fast do you want to go?

I'm pretty sure a Shuttle-4 is a series drive cart.

Pack voltage determines max RPM for a series wound motor and a motor rated at 36V runs faster 48V without being harmed, but a motor rated at 48V is likely to get too hot when ran at 36V.

You are already at 48V, so increasing the pack voltage isn't a viable option.
Taller tires would increase speed, but would also reduce torque.
The differential gear ratio is 14.7:1 and changing the gears to 12.44:1 would increase speed by about 15%, but would also reduce torque.

However, you can go above 48V, but that gets expensive.

It is tinfoil, so the thermal conductivity is only about 25% that of Aluminum and the eddy currents generated by my brain waves warms it sufficiently for temperatures down to about 20°F. :mrgreen:

I think those last 2 replies were unrelated to this thread. Here is a pic of the shuttle I bought. It actually looks like it had a lift kit installed and 20" tires with plenty of room to add taller ones. I already sold the cargo box off the back and now will work on figuring out what rear seat kit will fit. It doesn't look like the standard rear seat kit for a txt will fit.

I just looked at the motor today and it is actually a 36 volt motor. Does anyone know if that was common for shuttles? To have a 36 volt motor but run 48 volts in batteries? I know people do it for an upgrade.

Cart motors should be labeled with a voltage range rather than a specific voltage. :mrgreen:

The should actually be labeled with max Wattage input.


EZGO lists that motor as a replacement for the 22858G1 & 73124G02 that were historically used in 36V carts and lists 48V Shuttle 4 & 6 as well as 48V Workhorse & MPT for applicable vehicles.

Not sure what year the transition occurred, but the 48V Shuttles made in the early 2000's shared the same 73124G0x motor used by the 36V carts of the era.

Does that mean a 48v cart will run faster than the 36v, when stock?
