My non running cart
 

Sorry fellas I posted a tech question on the introduction page. I am brand new to this. Here is my question. I have what I think is a 95/96 gas club car. it has a fe290d gas engine. I put in a new filter, new plug, oil change fuel filters, and battery. It ran for about a 1/2 hour and once it gets warmed up and then sits for a couplpe of minutes it will not run again. It does sound like its is trying to turn over it just wont fire up again. Let me know if anyone else has run into this. I have had it to a repair shop and they put in a new coil twice buit that seems to have no affect and I am out $500.00 for nothing. Any help would be great.

once it quits you need to see if its getting any spark, if so than is it getting any fuel? those carbs wern,t the greatest and it wouldn,t surprise me if you have one thats about done.....so post what you find either lack of spark or fuel.............................8)

Should I just get a new carb and fuel pump just to simplfy things

Oh man... thats a very simple question, have you never tinkered with a gas powered engine?

when its not running put it in maintence mode and check at the sparkplug for spark.......either get a spark tester they arn,t expensive at all or pull sparkplug put it back in the boot and get the business end up against metel and crank over look to see if plug is sparking..........if you have spark than it is fuel related you can take the carb off and clean it real good......tear it down and clean the crap out of it.....use a air compressor to blow things out.....same with fuel pump you can tear it apart and clean it up but you have to be careful............1st make sure where problem is either lack of spark or lack of fuel................................8)

OK I took the plug out put it back in the boot held the end to a piece of angle iron and stepped on the gas I didnt see and spark. Its a new plug and battery. Any idea what i should check next could it be a bad solenoid maybe its not firing. You mentioned maintenance mode. what is that on a cart I have on and off. let me know and thanks for the help

if your certain its not getting spark and they replaced the coil 2 times already than its quite possible its either the ignitor or the rpm limitor or both thats all thats left thats a small black box center of engine lower side you have to look for it but its down there.....the ignitor is bolted to the back side of the bracket that holds the limitor on and this is a very common failure on that cart when its a no spark or intermittant spark issue......its not your soleniod thats working or cart wouldn,t crank over..........as for maintence mode under the seat right on the F&R unit theres a yellow knob pull it out and turn it 180 degrees put it back in and put lever in nueltral cart will start but it won,t start in gear......when your done working on it put the back 180 degrees its just like having nueltral..............if it were me and it wasn,t getting spark and plug and wire are ok i would replace ignitor/limitor.....................8)

You put the plug back into the boot and say you held a piece of angle up to it? You have to ground the plug on the engine somewhere and the spark will happen at the electrode of the plug, forget the angle iron just ground the plug to the motor head, or get your little brother to stick his finger in the boot while you push the pedal, if he lets out a yelp then you have spark.
