What rear shocks to use?
 

I recently lifted my other CC. It is an 01 CC DS with 24"x 12" x 9.5", it has a Jakes 6" lift and heavy duty rear 4 leafs. The stock shocks are completely extended and probably need replacement. I used monroe matic sensa shocks on my other cart but it doesn't sit nearly as high. Do you guys have any other suggestions, I had to drop the axle and unbolt the lift for those monroes...PIA!!! :help:

I am pretty sure teh chevette shocks are for a gasser. I am running no shocks on my 98 and really don't notice a differance

I have an '02 DS with a 6-in. lift, but 22-11x10 tires. Even with four h.d. rear springs, my tires were rubbing when off-road with 2 heavy passengers in the rear. I solved my problem with a pair of $70 air shocks. And I wouldn't take for the adjustable ride!

If that interests you, here's some details on what I did.

As mentioned by many others, you'll want to select a shock where the distance between the brackets falls between the extended and compressed lengths of the shock, and it has sufficient travel to accomodate your suspension setup.

To determine the correct shocks, measure the distance between the upper & lower shock mounting brackets. "Rock" the suspension to settle the shocks and springs before measuring.

The shocks on my cart have a stem mount on both ends. I used Monroe Air Max p.n. MA-705; it's a complete kit. My installer friend did have to double-bushing the top stem in order to gain a bit more clearance between the upper portion of the (larger diameter shock) cylinder and the aluminum mounting bracket.

Here's the specs on mine, as well as another size that may be required for with your 12" tires:

Monroe Max Air MA-705
compressed length 10.875, ext'd 17.375, travel 6.5

Monroe Max Air MA-739
Shock Compressed is 12.250, ext'd 20.750, travel 8.5

As a side note, if the dimensions for the MA-705 shocks work for your cart, they fit a 1970 Ford Mustang (and a few other vehicles as well), so if you decide not to go with air shocks, you can select other types of shocks.

(Again, these shocks have the stem fitting at both ends)

By the way... Since my cart has a 12-volt converter, I'm in the process of adding an on-board Air Lift (brand) inflator system, so I can change pressure on-the-fly. $129 at J.C. Whitney.

How in the heck are you getting that much clearance. The most clearance, dropping the lift and all was about 13" on jacks. A little over 10" compressed. My leafs won't allow me to get that much clearance. I love the idea...just don't know how you did it!:shock:

I really can't answer that, unless it's from adding the 4 h.d. leaf springs?
