Am I using the right spark plug?

2 Attachment(s)
Hello

I was driving my 1988 ezgo 2 stroke cart for about a month now. Just the past week It fouls the plug. I can run it for a while then the plug goes bad. I put a new one in, It's fine it will run, But when you stop for a minute then hit the gas to go it will just turn over, but not start. I went through 4 plugs in a week. Now its to the point one ride, then you have to chang the plug. When you take the plug out it has a white looking powder on it

Here is what i'm running for gas, oil, and plug

gas- 93 octane
oil- Ams 2 strock
plug- NGK BP7HS
oil to gas 1.5oz to 1 gallon of gas

what is casing this to happen

thanks frogger

Can you get a close up shot of the end of the plug? If the one in the picture is fouled I'm thinkin too hot a plug. Not sure what the stocker is

Whats the point in running high octane gas?Like roady was saying get a better pic of the bottom of the plug, from the pic it half looks like its running good maybe a bit lean.

I can't tell from the pic...is it oil foiled or just foiled? Best I can tell is its not oil foiled so that means your either running a lean mixture, and/or plug is too hot....probly a little of both. Get the right plug and run more oil. I'm pretty sure thats not the right plug but who knows....lemme guess, someone told you a hotter plug and you would get more power? Do you realize your running right at an 85:1 premix?

Me to, try a 5 instead of 7. I really doubt you need high octane gas, those engines don't have very high compression.

Yea try a BP5HS

A BP5HS is for mid altitude areas, where a BP4HS is a high altitude. So lol a BP7HS is for under water!:lol: joke everyone!

Ok I'll give that a try, I'll go with a 87 oct. and a 5 not a 7

Not all manufacturers follow the same spec as far as hot and cold, up or down. I was thinking an 8 simply because thats what I have in mine. I also run pre-mix at around 50:1 full synthetic. If the plug is too cold, there will be deposits on the nose of the plug. If the plug is too hot, the porcelain will be porous looking, almost like sugar.

NGK plugs get HOTTER as the number gets lower. (See chart below.)

Bosch plugs get COLDER as the number gets lower.

Re: Am I using the right spark plug?

ok I just got in from trying a lower oct. 87 a diff. plug a BP5HS and still nothing. If I put a new plug in it will run fine I ran it for about 20 mins.
but as soon as you stop it will not start back up. So I put a new plug in start right up ran for about 15 mins then stoped will not start up. A new plug has a good spark, But the one you take out after running it is week. And has a white power on it. Can it be out of time?? When you let off the gas and stop something is fouling out the plug.

thanks frogger
