Swapping engines/G2/G9/G8/G14

I have seen alot of posts latley asking about using different engines in different carts. Here is my advice. All G2/G9/G8 long blocks are enterchangable. The G14 long block is also, it just has a larger bore, there for different piston/rings/head gasket. Now hope this works...the G2 uses J38 pulsar coil/ROTOR/Ignitor/wire harness and coil. G9 uses J38 pulsar coil/Rotor/JG5 ignitor/JG5 wire harness and j38 coil. the G8 uses JF2 pulsar coil/JF2 ROTOR/Jf2 ignitor/JF2 wire harness and a JF2 coil. G14 uses a JF2 pulsar coil/JF2 Rotor/JN3 ignitor/JN3 wire harness and a JF2 coil. My point is..If your using a long block from a G14 into a G2, You would need to install the J38 pulsar coil/ Rotor and coil from the G2 engine with this done, you would use the G2 wire harness and ignitor and your motor should run. Please remember the pulsar coil/Rotor/coil/wireharness and ignitor must match for ignition system to work. Hope this makes sence and helps. Good luck. Later Dave:thumbup:

If a Knowledgable cart guy cant understand it..I missed the mark. So will try again. You can not use a chevy distibutor in a ford. You can't use ignition parts from one Yamaha to another if they do not work together/match. Capice?/Comprendo?/Understando? :lhmo: I was really trying to help.

Dave, that really is good info, great for a sticky. Think about it, as good used G2/G8/G9 motors get harder and harder to find, more people are going to want to use the newer model engines and will need to know how to set them up! I Vote Sticky!

Yes, You will need the wireharness, the G9-"TCI/ignitor" and the G9-automatic voltage regulator. My peebrain is trying to think of anything else...no that should do it.

Good info Dave...btw,I'm back in Texas.Wish I were closer cause I'm in need of your help again.I loaned my Yami to a friend...he ran it out of oil..Now I have a knocking engine.

Is there such a thing as a crank kit...like a car?
Is there a manual showing the engine breakdown an specs?
Should I start a new thread for this?

G2 gas

Is a G1 crank kit the same for a G2?

Re: Swapping engines/G2/G9/G8/G14

Just saw this thread. I make my lifevery simple. I bought an EZGO/Hyundai ignitor with the 5-wire config. Two wires connect to the pulsar. The middle (black) is ground. One goes to the solenoid and the last wire goes to the ignition coil. I make my own harness. Just cost me the price of the EZGO/Hyundai ignitor and 2 yards of wire. Yamaha ignitors are kind of complicated and super expensive.

OK, so can you swap a G8A engine into a G9? Will the engine mounts line up? If so, how does it work if the gas tank and battery is on the opposite sides of the cart? How about the air cleaner? Would it still fit?

Yes you can use a G8 engine. You will need to use the Ignition pickup and flywheel from the G9. Everything else will work just fine, the air box is also the same. Don't worry about the fuel tank and battery.

Ok, I'm new to the cart world, just saying so I dont understand alot. Anyone have any ideas to learn more other than forums? But my question is, I have a TTR 125 and I want to pull that motor and put into a lifted golf cart. Is this possible? It is a Yamaha bike, so I would assume getting a Yamaha cart would be best, or does it not matter? Thanks

Welcome ! I would suggest you going to the "bigblock section" , take a look at the "bike engine" build section. Many members have done what your planning and would be glad to add input to your project.

So I'm trying to swap a g9 motor for a g14. The cart is a g9. What exactly do I need to swap? I have it in but it runs terrible. Sounds like it is out of time.

Sorry it took so long to post. You'l need to take the "rotor" /"flywheel",pick up coil, ignition coil off the G9 engine and install them on the G14 engine. Then everything should "plug In" and have correct spark timeing. Let us know what happens

Thats a great deal. Might want to put it in the "parts for sale section", more members will see it.

I will do that thank you. I have been searching but cannot find out
If anyone has came up with a splined sprocked hub that fits the Yamaha transaxle input shaft? Or if anyone has one for sale??? Merry Christmas everyone!!

Sorry if this has been covered somewhere on the forum, but does anyone know if a G14 engine can be directly swapped into a G2? Or will the G14 engine not be a fairly straight-forward, simple swap? Thanks!

Really straight forward. You'll need the flywheel/pulsar coil pick up and coil off the G2. install them on the G14 engine and reinsatll the engine into the G2.

That's awesome to know. I might be picking up a G2 this weekend from a local golf cart dealer's salvage yard. One has the engine and is missing the drive clutch and some other small things, and the other doesn't have an engine at all. There are several G14 engines laying around, so I can snag one if the money is right.
