It sounds like maybe the bearing is not fully installed (not seated in the correct location)
I use a 6" piece of 3/4 steel pipe to seat the bearing. place the axle in a vice with the bearing end up. Slide the bearing on followed by the pipe. Tap the pipe with a hammer until the bearing is seated in the proper location.

Thank you for your response, I used a socket to punch it in but nothing, I bought 2 different sets of bearings ,it seems like it larger then the inner Groove of the hub.:help:Attachment 225776

Here is a update: passenger side rear axle bearing was prefect to install : But driver rear axle bearing mystery grooves, bearings is too thick. See pictures Attachment 225776

In the pic looks like the remains of the old bearing are still in the axle.

Re: axle bearing and seal replacement.

i'm starting to replace my axle bearings on a 1994 electric marathon. I tried the reverse brake drum to get the axle out, no luck. I"ve ordered a slide hammer. The mfg repair manual says to screw the slide hammer into the threaded hole in the axle. i need to find what size the bolt is. so far i haven't found a bolt to fit it. Or could i leave my loosened brake hub on and connect the slide hammer to the lugnuts? thanks.

if you do use a slide hammer, what do you hook it to? 1994 electric marathon, my studs are on the brake drum. anyone know what size the screw hole is in the center of the axle. I read something saying screw the slide hammer end into that. so far i haven't gotten my axle out. it's cold and keeps raining.

Most slide hammers come with a set of fingers or a bracket that screws on then you can hook that to the nut or hub.

I made a slide hammer for Ezgo axles. I welded an axle castle nut on the end.
I have heard you can put the drum on backwards and thread the nut on leaving some space to use the drum as a slide hammer. Never tried it as I had a proper tool but it sounds like it would work.

I got my axil out and finally the old seal off my 1994 marathon. everything seems hard on that golf cart. It has looks like iron filings in the axle housing. I thought it was dirt at first but it sticks to a magnet. how can i clean out the axle housing? thought about running a magnet inside the housing. don't want to knock the metal into the differential though. i'm going to change the fluid also when i get finished with the bearings.
