1993 36V CC - need speed

I have a 36 V CC. 1993 (SN: A9304-316827). It's used for riding around on a flat Florida community - mostly roads. Current GPS-measured speed is ~12 MPH. I'd like to double that if possible.

The batteries are about 6 years old. They still hold a charge and propel the cart fine.

My initial thought for getting more speed is to upgrade the batteries to 48V. This would be costly especially when you throw in the charger. Not sure if there is anything else I would need to change with the higher voltage batteries.

What do you guys think of this idea? Is there a better way to double my top speed?

To get the speed you want it will take more than 48 volts. You will need a motor and a controller with the selonoid to match. As in a car you have to pay for speed.
Now if you want a little more then bigger back wheels will get you a few more but to double you will have to spend some $$$.

You would come out cheaper buying a 48v car, selling your 36v, and then going from there.

I don't know, guys. He could throw 2 used 6v in the bagwell ($80) and a 48v solenoid ($50) and make 2 long cables ($20) and have a 33% gain = 16mph ? ($150)
Like Andy said, bigger tires will add a couple more and he will be doing 18-20mph. He could do the add a 12v charger thing per Gornoman to charge the 48v. And find used set of 22" x 8", No?

Re: 1993 36V CC - need speed

I can buy 6-8V cart batteries at Sams for $72/ea. Add to that a charger ($300) and my upgrade cost is: ~$750. This also gets me new batteries which I'll need soon anyway.

I assume it will get me more speed (48 vs. 36 volts going into the same motor). The 2 questions on the table are:
  1. How much more speed will I get?
  2. Will I need to upgrade the controller or anything else as well?

If it is a controller cart and your controller is not rated for 48v then you will have to replace it. $300. My $150. upgrade was for a seies cart only. :|

How do I tell if it's a controller cart?

Some could tell you by the serial # but, lift the seat and look behind the batteries towards the motor. Do you see a series of metal coils with cables connected to them? If so it is a series cart.

Look for one of these under the seat behind your batteries mounted to the frame.
