87 Yamaha G1

Bought this from a farmer who left it in the field for 10 years.
He had pulled the carb and robbed the oil tank.
I pulled the reed plate and inspected the cylinders.
No rust inside cylinder and engine rolls over easily except at near TDC.
Seems to have decent compression as when I roll over TDC,
the cylinder pops back down with a little force.

I ordered carb already and await it's arrival. I plan to premix
for now to get it running (about 85:1?)
Future plans call for about a 4" lift, larger more aggressive
tires and Douglas smoothies.

Primary use will be for hunting and working the lease during the
off season.

I have already perused the site (about a 1000 pages so far!)
Looking forward to being part of the community.

Cheap boat seats are a bonus, I like that they can be folded down. Entire cart is complete minus the oil tank and carb.

Bent bumpers, missing fuel door, a bad repair job in the rear center of the body, and a bit of damage on the corner

good find, loved my G1! easy to fix and nearly indistructable, hope it runs with the new carb.

You and me both. The engine seems runnable, I just don't know if the electrics
are going to work. I'm going to have to engineer a temporary switch for the
forward and reverse, because I do not have a key. I also want to bypass the
pedal switch just until I get the engine runing and somewhat tuned.

OK, I'v gotten the engine to roll over after doing some wiring and
replacing a missing relay. I have pulled the tank on cleaned it up,
pulled the fuel pump amd cleaned it up, and now am installing the
carb. I hope everything else goes so easy.

Re: 87 Yamaha G1

Well, it runs. I was able to get the fuel lines replaced, the
fuel pump seems to work and the carb is somewhat adjusted.
I took it for a few laps around the block on mixed gas at about 80:1.
It seems to run fine but the body cowl gets real warm.
Once I got it back in the driveway and lifted the lid, the tail
pipe was smoking something fierce. I guess it's time for a BBQ.

Well, here's my latest addition to the cart. I decided I needed a winch since
I got it stuck at the deer lease. I wanted to make something strong yet
functional that I can still use after I install the lift and larger tires.
Attachment 38452
I used a 1/4" wall 4x6 tube to fit over the existing bumper mounts and boxed
the sides. I also used the existing holes but upgraded the hardware to 3/8" bolts.

Attachment 38454
I also trimmed the front cowl by removing the wheel well lip and blending the
sides into the front. I removed about 4". the HF winch fit right in.
