LiFePo4 batteries
I have a '07 Precedent that I am considering replacing the batteries in. My neighbor works for a "green battery" company, and thinks I should go with LiFePo4 batteries. His company has the batteries, charger, and battery control board. My question is this, would I need to make any changes to the cart as far as the OBC, or anything like that is concerned? I currently have 4 12vdc batteries in cart.

Re: LiFePo4 batteries
I think he's trying to make a sale. They are the future, for sure. From what I've seen, a 12V lithium iron phosphate battery is much smaller and lighter with blade type terminals. If your neighbor is willing to create the mods and set up for you golf car, try them out and let us know....

Re: LiFePo4 batteries
. . . OBC would be removed from system as it would not be needed to control new charging media . . .

It sounds exciting but. I say do a ton of research first. |
Re: LiFePo4 batteries
The cost of the LiFePo4 for him comes to right around $1.20 per amp hour per cell. That's the price I would be paying. After little league this year when i have some time, I think I will do it.

Re: LiFePo4 batteries
Can you list what charger you will use as life battery charge requirements are very different than wet cell lead acid.

Re: LiFePo4 batteries
You are correct, they are different. The neighbor, will get those ducks in a row. I just have to find how the change affects the cart wiring. When I do it, I will post what I have.

Okay- sounds good

Re: LiFePo4 batteries
My advice is BE CAREFUL! There is a good reason why very few of them are out there.

Re: LiFePo4 batteries
As someone who has made the jump to LifePo4 batteries, I am very pleased with them. As for changing the setup of the cart - other than installing a voltage reducer for my 12 volt system and a digital meter from Scottyb, nothing more needed to be done. I did get a LifePo4 balance charger with my battery pack. It works like any other in that it shuts off when the pack is fully charged.
Sorry to be late to the party here. I hope this is helpful. |
