Can Flood/Salvage Carts be rebuilt?
 

I am looking to buy a low cost Club Car to build/rebuild and I am going into this with the idea of having to take everything apart and clean/replace as needed.

I came across what appears to be a pretty good option for me that is Salvage Auctions. Copart has many carts that have had flood damage. I was thinking that since the Club Carts have aluminum frames, I'd be able to use the frame and any plastic/aluminum parts and tires on the cart to save a bit of money.

One of the attractive things about doing it this way is that I should at least have a sense of what all parts are needed and how they go together, even if they have to be replaced. This is attractive because I've never done anything with golf carts other than drive them.

Has anyone done this before? Is there anything I should be worried about with this method?

Any advice/suggestions are welcome.

Yes, you can definitely do this, there was a thread fairly recently of someone working on one. You'll have to assume that most, if not all, of the electrical components will be fried due to water intrusion and subsequent corrosion. Even the wires/cables can be toast, even if they look good. If you planned on upgraded controller and all that to begin with, and you can climb into the Copart cart cheap enough, you'll be ok.

Thanks Wakko47. I do plan on upgraded controller and wiring as I will be going with a Plum Quick motor and LFP batteries/BMS.

Any advice on the max you would pay for such a cart?

I was looking at the metric **** ton of them in the NC area. You going for street legal or neighborhood cruiser?

I just completed one. I started with an 09 precedent. Purchased a new wiring harness from Revolution Golf carts and did the AC conversion. Just be prepared to replace anything electric.

I bought this 08 precedent that had been been flooded for $250. Completely rebuild it! Only thing original is the chassis and rear end. New wiring harness, FSIP Speed motor, 500 amp Alltrax, DoubleTake body, top, seats, lift and wheels. I've probably got around $3500-4000 in it. All that was at wholesale because I'm a dealer for all those, but definitely worth it! If you don’t want to title and register it make sure you don’t get one that’s titled.
