1999 Workhorse burning oil
I've got a 1999 workhorse with a Robin EH350 and my wife is getting tired of the burning oil smell. It's not burning so much so you can see it, just enough to be annoying. Does anyone know roughly what M&M charges for a re-ring and a good going-through? I could probably do the work myself but I don't know smaller engines that good and I wouldn't have any way to do the honing or valve work anyway.
Thanks in advance |

Read post 5.. looks like cheaper if you don't need a crank, they are only a phone call away.

I don't believe they actually give you your motor back...they take yours as core, pull it apart, measure everything so they know what they can re-use on the build for someone else, and send you a re-built motor. At least that was the case when I called them last year on my 295.

Thanks for the response. I saw that post but I didn't know how much a crank costs.
I'll give them a call and post it back here in case someone else wants to know. |

Re: 1999 Workhorse burning oil
BTW.. did you do a compression test? that will tell it all, also check the hose from the motor to the air cleaner.

Re: 1999 Workhorse burning oil
Maybe stating the obvious, but make sure the oil level is not overfilled. Even just a little bit makes a difference

Re: 1999 Workhorse burning oil
There's no oil in the air cleaner box or hose, I think it's either valve seals or piston rings.
I didn't do a compression test because it starts and runs perfect. I'm home sick right now with a sore throat and can't talk so I had to email M&M and they haven't responded yet......... |
Re: 1999 Workhorse burning oil
I would still check the oil level. If it is over just a little bit it will do what you describe. If you are not sure drain it and refill with just under 1.5 qts
