28 degree clutch question
 

What are the pros and cons of a 28 degree clutch? I live in a rugged, hilly area and need more climbing power. Will a 28 degree clutch help?

The 28 degree driven clutch comes standard on the ST utility trucks, it is made for load hauling and pulling power. I can't think of any cons at all, its really the best way to improve your low end power. If you don't feel like spending alot for a 28deg clutch you can change just the cam on the 36 degree driven clutch to a 28 degree cam. This is provided your clutch is in good shape to start with. check to see which cam your driven clutch already has before buying the parts for this mod. the normal txt clutch cam has 36 degree ramps on the cam, it will have a 36 stamped on the back of them (closest part to the rear end housing). The 28deg and has 28 stamped on it. The steeper angle on the cam makes it harder for the clutch to open thus keeping it in a lower gear longer.

The 28 degree cam, and buttons can be bought from ezgo.

1 each - 72329-G01 Cam
3 each - 72324-G01 Button
use 120 degrees of preload, and the middle spring setting.

Thanks for the info, Jon. I have a 2001 Workhorse. Does this already have 28 degree clutch?(not sure if this model is considered an ST?)

The factory (non lifted) workhorses did not come with the 28deg clutch. As far as I know that clutch only comes on the ST line of lifted carts.

The 28 degree clutch will be the best $$$$$ you will spend especially if you have a stock motor. Your bottom end and hill climbing ability will be awesom compared to the stock clutch.

Hi Jon,

Is there any existing Power kits for a 1986' 2 Stroke Ez-Go out there? I am open change to a 28 degree clutch but haven't seen any for my year cart. Also does anyone know if there is a performance spring I can purchase as well? Let me know. Thanks

I agree with the 28 deg. I have one and it works GREAT. (99 workhorse 1200) I don't know aboout the 2 cycle. You may be able to run a slightly shorter belt (1"), bot I don't know what that would be.

Thanks Tony,

Ya the shorter built isn't doing anything for my cart but I have yet to rebuild the top end of the engine which I am doing this week. Hopefully once this is rebuilt my worries will be over but if not I have to start looking else were.

I just haven't seen or heard of anyone putting a 28 degree clutch in a 1986' 2 Stroker Ez-Go so I am hoping someone has done it.

Ok so if you already have a ST model and it has the 28Degree already installed what can be done to give it more low end grunt?I just installed 27"Vampires and need a little more bottom end for climbing over stuff.
