Lithium Conversion

Would anyone that has done the lithium conversion like to leave a complete parts list? It appears there are a lot of different ways to go about it, but it gets a little confusing while doing research. I’m want to convert my 36v TXT.

I'm currently building my lithium pack. I will be putting a parts list on my first page. Give me a week or so to complete. Life is getting in the way of my build.

Re: Lithium Conversion

I have 14 Leaf modules. 7 pair of modules paralleled and those 7 pairs are in series.
I am running 56 volts.
I use a Chargery charger that allows custom charging profiles to be configured.
In regards to controllers I have 2 in my possession. A Navitas 600 amp with an OTF switch. Also an Alltrax XCT48500.
I just burned up my stock motor.
Waiting on a new Plum Quick Barracuda to arrive now.

No BMS? If you are using one, which one are you using? I'm also in the process of building a lithium car and have a Chargery charger.

Re: Lithium Conversion

No BMS at the moment. Not sure if I will run one.
I dont have enough time with the batteries under load to see the drop.
After a 14 mile ride with 4 miles of that being WFO, the pack had lost 1 volt.
According to my calculations, my pack fully charged (4.05 per cell @ 56.7v) if 60% is used would bring the cell voltage to 1.62 v per cell or 22.68v for the entire pack. I am not sure where the low voltage cut off would be on the Navitas 600amp controller. It is rated for 36-60vdc operation.
Should be good for any driving I am doing.
I have never had a cruise end due to battery charge, lead acid or other.
That does not include when I bought the cart with spent batteries ;-)

You need to read more on lithium battery math, 60% DOD is not the same as 60% Voltage.

A 60AH Nissan Leaf cell with a 90%DOD (10%SOC remaining) would have a cell voltage of 3.5v.

Sergio beat me to it.

Might want to do a little more research on SoC and DoD and also running a lithium pack without a proper management system.

Taking any one of your cells down to 1.62v is going to ruin your pack quicker than not.

There is no doubt I have plenty to learn. I am reading and doing as fast as I can. Paralysis by analysis can crimp plans too many times.
My calculations were based on maximum consumption or use. An area of which I dont intend to do.
This is just a method of getting my feet wet.

Re: Lithium Conversion

For my 7 module Leaf batteries my settings on my ZEVA BMS are this:

Maximum charge : 57.0V
Maximum Voltage: 4.15\cell
Full Voltage: 56.0V
Minimum Low Voltage trip: 42V (Or 3.0V per cell)

Then on my Alltrax Controller....as an additional backup\safety:

Maximum Voltage: 57.7 (4.12-cell)
Minimum Voltage: 39.6 (2.83V-cell)

Now, the Controller does NOT monitor each individual cell voltage. Just the pack. The cell voltages on the Controller are shown just for comparison.
