Is this engine fried?

I recently got a Workhorse 800G. This is basically a TXT with a gas engine and an electric dump bed.

It's a '99, but it has been sitting for 3-5 years (previous owner could not remember how long). It had run out of gas, so there was no gas left in the carb.

It runs, but it runs really rough and has no power.

I put in fresh gas, changed the oil, adjusted the valves tried cleaning the carb. All to no avail.

I did a compression check and each cylinder has 60psi. If I add some oil to the cylinders, I get 70psi on one and 80psi on the other.

My conclusion is the engine is done and should be rebuilt or replaced.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Add 100 psi to those numbers and I bet it would run!!!!

That's way low compression.

I would try a massive amount of Seafoam, or penetrating oil in both cylinders for a good soaking. Keep at it for a few days.

You might get lucky, and have the rings loosen up enough to re-seat themselves.

Thanks Cart around! I was gong to throw in the towel and your post made me take another look.

It turns out the compression tester I was using was not seating all the way on the head. A little adjustment and the tester reads 150psi and 120psi. A whole lot better.

Adjusted the valves one more time, but no love.

Decided that even though it appeared that the cart had been run out of fuel, oh so many years ago, that may not be the case. Instead of rebuilding, I bought a new carburetor and the thing runs like a top!

I guess these engines are pretty tough.

Thanks again.
