Reverse lights

1 Attachment(s)
I have headlights and taillights that are controlled manually by a switch on my dash. They run off my independent 12v system. I want to add reverse lights now but dont want to manually turn them on. I want them to turn on when i switch to reverse.

Can I use one of the wires in the pic to trigger a relay?
I circled the two options.

Thanks

Re: Reverse lights

If you want the reverse light to receive 24v, and turn on with brake lights. But , no, don't hook to those.

Ok I'm restarted. I just realized i am asking about reverse lights and showing pics of brake lights. Doh!

Do You have a reverse buzzer, it is really simple?

Yes I have a reverse buzzer. I am leary of tapping into it thought. RXV's are finicky when you tamper with their electrical system.

Correct, it'll kill the controller. The reverse buzzer is not to be connected to.

Do you have any suggestions for connecting reverse lights to an RXV?

One option would be to reconfigure the Fan driver output at controller pin 3 as a secondary reverse output switch, with powerup test disabled and both outputs set to 25% (12V) to directly power a reverse LED light. Max limit on that circuit is 3 Amps. It is the negative side of a circuit with the + 48V pack voltage as positive. The real reverse buzzer input/output is used as part of the run/tow circuit, so it should never be messed with, but a secondary output is usable.

That is definitively not a feasible solution for DIY, I guess even though the relay coil is just 20ma, most accidental mishaps messing with the mixed voltage connectors end in catastrophic failure.

It has nothing to do with current. It is a delicate balance of voltage values between the two interrelated functions, and any disruption to that tends to end with a catastrophic failure of the controller. That part of the circuitry of the controller triggers controller memory load at powerup and save at powerdown, to and from high memory/low memory. You disrupt that, and it bricks the controller.

Just ask anyone that has cut a reverse buzzer wire on an RXV to silence it, how did that work out for them...

A new controller later, they learned to not do that again.
