Yamaha g16 Build

4 Attachment(s)
Just bought a 99 g16. It is in good shape. I used to have a smoking problem but after drainin oil and cleanin out carb seem to be good. I am looking to lift it and larger tires. Also add a new jet and speed it up a little. Right now I'm not going to do a high speed gears but maybe some day if I do a big block. But a paint job and a little crome so do. Any ideas on a lift that is that wont break the bank? I don't need full travel. If anyone has any ideas or some things I should look for just let me know. Also I noticed a bent frame tube in front of engine (rock) that will be replaced and welded. thanks for your help

Pete

I got a couple hours this morning to tear it all apart. I pulled out the engine and I think I will have to do rings cause it still smokes. But the body is all apart ready for paint and waiting for new wheels and tire to arrive. just have to figure out what size lift I want. check out the pics... p.s. I live the pressure washer it did a great job.

I am going to paint this cart myself. I have never done a paint job before. I Have bought scuff pads for the primer and I was going to use 320 sand paper for the final paint. I have some scuffs and a 2 large holes in the hood from the front roof support that I would like to fill. Do I use bondo or fiberglass kit... The holes in the hood a bigger than a quarter.. and info

Thanks
Pete

Yamaha makes rubber plugs to go in thoes holes. I don't know that bondo will cover such a large surface with out backing.

It's from Jakes lift kits. Nice piece, fit very well, I was able to just fit 6" KC day liter knock offs in it. The lites came from Harber Freight, $15. ea. the bar was about $130.
By the way, your car looks to be cleaning up real well!
Need more pictures tho. Mike

I just installed the lift kit. It was the cheap one from buggies unlimited... only 100$ Lifted it up 4 inches though. But I fallowed the instructions and I didn't like all the drillin to install the brackets. I am going to work on it a little more tomarrow and will weld all the brackets to the frame. Will post pictures as soon as I can. Also got some nice rims and tires on order... delivered by the end of the month though:thumbdown:.

Pete, I don't know that I would weld that lift to the frame. Those lifts have been known to bend, and if you weld it on you can't change it out as easy for a better one later. Or if you would need to go higher in the future.
You can get hooked on these things, boy I sure am!
Good luck tomorrow with it, Mike
And PS. We want pictures!!

Just went back and looked at the pictures, Pete, that car cleaned up very well. I wouldn't weld anything to that frame.
